Subproject AFM2.2: Algorithmic Statistics in Bio-informatics
Subproject leader
Prof.dr.ir. P.M.B. Vitanyi (CWI)

Research description
We plan to study growth, connectivity and self-organization in models motivated by problems in biology, computer science and geo-physics. Key-words are: self-organized criticality, interacting particles, clustering, percolation, excitable media, forest fires and neuron activity. More fundamental insight in these phenomena is needed to influence and/or control a number of important processes in nature and technology.
