Theme IS: Intelligent Systems
This theme is concerned with research on foundations, methods, techniques and tools for the design of computer based systems that are able to carry out intelligent tasks. By these systems we here mean those that retrieve, store and transmit knowledge (including databases and knowledge banks), living and reasoning systems, and systems that support knowledge based decision making or carry out tasks in a specific environment (for example multi-agent systems and autonomous robots). For the latter systems, the problem of coordination of and cooperation between more or less autonomous agents in a group in order to carry out a task at group level is of prime importance. This theme therefore includes as well the fields of artificial intelligence and automatic knowledge generation and refinement. In order that knowledge based systems are adapted as well as possible to sometimes very different users, cognitive aspects also have to be taken into account.
